HMP Winchester is a category B men’s prison for those on remand to local courts. With an operational capacity of 690, HMP Winchester is based in Winchester, Hampshire; by car it’s approximately 20 minutes from Eastleigh, 25 minutes from Southampton, 30 minutes from Andover, Basingstoke and Newbury and 45 minutes from Salisbury. On foot, it’s a 20 minute walk from Winchester town centre and 15 minutes’ walk from Winchester train station.

Our model of care is our Wellbeing Approach – an integrated, comprehensive approach in recognition of the fact prisoners are a socially-excluded group with healthcare needs which are complex and often associated with poor outcomes. It adopts the premise no single health/wellbeing factor can be taken in isolation of other motivational issues which might impact a person’s care.

What will you be doing?

As a member of the wider management team, your role as the Mental Health Clinical Lead will be responsible for providing the day to day clinical and operational management of the mental health team across an integrated healthcare service, contributing to the strategic direction of the service.You will support your team to carry out comprehensive assessments, confidently communicating treatment options and initiating supportive care plans, working with individuals on a 1-2-1 basis alongside the wider multi-disciplinary team.

There will be an expectation for the post holder to lead / contribute to clinical and consumer audits. You'll be responsible to the Head of Healthcare, to ensure the management of the service meets its contractual obligations.

This includes ensuring all operational and clinical data requirements on the Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) are submitted within agreed deadlines and that KPI data is utilised to manage the performance of the team.

As a Registered Mental Health Nurse you’ll be an integral part of the healthcare team by bringing your top notch skills, passion for care and leadership to the role.

This is a leadership role and with your team leaders you will model a culture of compassion, care, courage, commitment, communication and competence. The role will include providing challenge, support and mentorship at point of delivery, drawing the best from our staff and improving the quality of care received at HMP Winchester.

Salary and Benefits

You’ll receive an annual salary of up to £44,000 - depending on experience.

This is a full-time, permanent role working 37.5 hours a week (Monday to Friday) cover is provided throughout the working day  on a shift basis (day shifts, no nights).
